Giving back to our community.
And the world.

At The Squires Group, we are very thankful for the opportunities we have been given, and we believe it is our responsibility to give back to others whenever we can. Our team is active in humanitarian and environmental causes locally and across the globe. And we only support charities that give 90% or more of their donations directly to their stated goal.

Local Outreach

For Our Animals

The Squires Group has contributed more than $600,000 to HART for Animals. Founded in 2003, and an organization very close to Nancy Squires’ heart, HART’s mission is to raise private funds to build an animal adoption center and improve the condition of companion animals in western Maryland and the surrounding counties. HART is saving the lives of adoptable animals through rescue and transport, owner education (a huge undertaking in the underdeveloped areas of the U.S.!), training, rehabilitation and successful adoption. HART has raised enough money, and received financial commitments from banks, and broke ground for the new Adoption Center in May 2011. For all of you familiar with the Deep Creek Lake area, the adoption center is located on Bumble Bee Road!

Cats R Us is a non-profit 501(c)3 cat and kitten rescue organization in the Annapolis, Maryland area whose focus is educating communities about non-lethal and humane care of community cats; controlling the community cat population through TNR (trap, neuter, and return); and the promotion of low-cost community spay/neuter clinics and initiatives. TNR means community cats are humanely trapped, vaccinated, sterilized and ear-tipped for identification by veterinarians.

Camp Letts is a YMCA camp that has supported the community for more than 100 years. Located on a beautiful inlet off the sparkling Chesapeake Bay, Camp Letts overlooks three islands and a 2,600-acre preserve. Children from the Baltimore-Washington area and beyond come to this secure and exciting environment to kindle friendships and master new skills – all while learning more about themselves, their peers and the world in which they live.

The Squires Group sponsored modern dance classes at the camp. Participants were taught various modern dance techniques to promote team work, physical activity and fun!

The Squires Group, Inc. has supported the Word Dance Theater in presenting the world premier of “Preludes: Duncan, Sand & Chopin.”

To read a wonderful review of the second presentation of Preludes in June 2011, visit: Charleston Today. The reviewer raves, “The music is a perfect stage for Duncan’s dances that become a silent song of sheer expression. Kudos to the creators of this original and heart-wrenching theatrical experience.”

This is an original dance/theater production that explores the dynamics between boundary-breaking artists Isadora Duncan, George Sand, and Frédéric Chopin, as each strives to embody beauty and freedom through their art. In this historically significant work, Word Dance Theater is the first company to present the complete collection of Isadora Duncan’s original choreography to Chopin’s masterwork 24 Preludes.

At the end of every year, we give each of our consultants a gift of their choice – or, if they prefer, we will donate to an organization in their name. Most recently, our team wanted to contribute “locally” and was moved by a program called Ready, Willing and Working – a Washington, DC-based organization that empowers individuals to break the cycles of homelessness, welfare dependency and repeated criminal acts through a residential, paid-work rehabilitation program. This program offers support services allowing participants to achieve permanent self-sufficiency. In 2010, The Squires Group donated more than $28,000 to this great organization!
