ANNAPOLIS, MD, May 15, 2017 – The Squires Group, Inc. (TSGi) announced today that they recently sponsored the cash prizes for the top winners at the Anne Arundel Community College’s (AACC) Java Programming competition held on Friday, April 28, 2017.
“We are thrilled to be part of this very important initiative by AACC. Over the past five years we have seen the demand for Java Developers jump significantly as both the commercial and public sectors have launched major projects to increase their web and mobile presence,” says Eric Galasso, President at TSGi. “By sponsoring these high school level competitions we are supporting the effort to cultivate the talent that will be the driving force of our nation’s future technology innovations. We are pleased that AACC took the initiative to organize this competition so that our local high school students can showcase their talent in Java programming. Congratulations to the winning teams for their hard work, dedication and collaboration during this competition,” adds Eric.
This event was organized by Wendy Chasser, Faculty – Assistant Professor at AACC in conjunction with AACC’s Computer Science Club. In addition to helping Wendy in running the event, the Computer Science Club also helped proctor the event. The teams had an hour and a half to work on seven different Java projects. “The schools competed for trophies, cash prizes and Raspberry Pi’s. We saw tremendous interest from the local high schools to participate in this competition,” says Wendy Chasser. “It is wonderful to see local companies like The Squires Group supporting AACC in helping our local high school students develop IT skills that are currently in high demand,” says Wendy Chasser. “The feedback from the schools and staff involved was overwhelmingly positive. At the end of the tournament, many high schools involved in this competition expressed their eagerness to come back next year,” adds Wendy.
