Giving back to our community.
And the world.

At The Squires Group, we are very thankful for the opportunities we have been given, and we believe it is our responsibility to give back to others whenever we can. Our team is active in humanitarian and environmental causes locally and across the globe. And we only support charities that give 90% or more of their donations directly to their stated goal.

Local Outreach

For Our Animals

The Squires Group has contributed more than $600,000 to HART for Animals. Founded in 2003, and an organization very close to Nancy Squires’ heart, HART’s mission is to raise private funds to build an animal adoption center and improve the condition of companion animals in western Maryland and the surrounding counties. HART is saving the lives of adoptable animals through rescue and transport, owner education (a huge undertaking in the underdeveloped areas of the U.S.!), training, rehabilitation and successful adoption.

The HART Animal Adoption Wing was officially opened on Friday, April 15, 2016, in the presence of representatives from federal, state, and local government, volunteers, supporters and staff. After ten years, HART’s dream of a place for homeless animals was now a beautiful reality.

The Adoption Wing is the final phase of the 12,000 square foot facility. Construction of the Adoption Wing began in April 2015 and was completed in March 2016. Phase 1 of the Center opened in February 2014 and includes the Bredel Veterinary Clinic, the Bed ‘n Bark Inn pet hotel, MuttWorks grooming, and the HART Shoppe.

HART uses 85% of all its revenues to support charitable programs, including adoptions, spay/neuters, rescue and transports, and sheltering. Please DONATE to HART today.

The Squires Group, Inc. has supported the Word Dance Theater in presenting the world premier of “Preludes: Duncan, Sand & Chopin.”

To read a wonderful review of the second presentation of Preludes in June 2011, visit: Charleston Today. The reviewer raves, “The music is a perfect stage for Duncan’s dances that become a silent song of sheer expression. Kudos to the creators of this original and heart-wrenching theatrical experience.”

This is an original dance/theater production that explores the dynamics between boundary-breaking artists Isadora Duncan, George Sand, and Frédéric Chopin, as each strives to embody beauty and freedom through their art. In this historically significant work, Word Dance Theater is the first company to present the complete collection of Isadora Duncan’s original choreography to Chopin’s masterwork 24 Preludes.

At the end of every year, we give each of our consultants a gift of their choice – or, if they prefer, we will donate to an organization in their name. Most recently, our team wanted to contribute “locally” and was moved by a program called Ready, Willing and Working – a Washington, DC-based organization that empowers individuals to break the cycles of homelessness, welfare dependency and repeated criminal acts through a residential, paid-work rehabilitation program. This program offers support services allowing participants to achieve permanent self-sufficiency. In 2010, The Squires Group donated more than $28,000 to this great organization!

For Our Children

In Uganda, most girls do not have the financial means to further their education or access to schooling due to inequality and other social influences. In an effort to change that dynamic and help educate Ugandan girls, Nancy Squires and her sister, Judy, created Nancy’s Girls with Real Partners Uganda (RPU). RPU is a non-profit organization that supports ministries in Uganda that educate and care for orphaned children.

Through Nancy’s Girls, financial support is given to local girls who have completed primary school and wish to continue their education in order to become self-sufficient. In 2009, twenty girls were chosen for their academic excellence, determination and passion to improve their lives.

Since 2009, Nancy and The Squires Group have donated over $250,000 to help the program start and grow. Over the years, these donations have given the girls the proper school supplies, equipment, and resources to help them with their continuing education, including a van that is used for transporting and visiting the girls at their boarding school!

The girls regularly stay in touch with their “sponsor mom” Nancy, by sending letters and photos. (See thank you notes from Nancy’s Girls: Nassiwa Jane Sylivia, Nannyanzi Joeria, Prascovia Nakagera).

Recently, Nancy also helped to fund the creation of a dorm, known as Judy’s House (named after Nancy’s sister), which serves as a housing area for the younger girls at the Mustard Seed Academy. The Mustard Seed Academy is the “mothership” providing boarding and education for children, both boys and girls, in the Uganda area.

St. Jude Research Hospital is one of the world’s premier centers for research and treatment of catastrophic diseases in children, primarily pediatric cancers. Research efforts are directed at understanding the molecular, genetic and chemical bases of catastrophic diseases in children, identifying cures for such diseases and promoting their prevention.
